Distribution and Production Center

Perspective

The markets of Thessaloniki form a key role in the identity of the city. Here the locals, tourists and newcomers meet. Here they exchange goods, share ideas and engage with one another. The financial crisis in 2008 had a big impact on the Greek economy. The result is many abandoned buildings and unused market spaces.

This was both a challenge and opportunity for 'the Thessaloniki Distribution and Production Center' project. The project is a distribution and production center that provides the platform for facilitating self-reliance through entrepreneurship. A distribution hub where people can develop skills, acquire knowledge, produce and participate. The distribution and production center include a distribution space on the ground floor, basement floor for storage, classrooms on the second floor, and most importantly production and workshop spaces in all the apartments. The project aims to give the physical opportunity for people to acquire entrepreneurial training and skills needed to run their own business.

Living units with workspace

The floor plans provide spaces for a life that have room for both living and working, and the new arrivals with a potentional good starting point for integration– and the neighborhood with an architecture that can be adapted to future needs.
